What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy (or Therapeutic Yoga) is a new form of therapy that is designed based on the learnings from the world of yoga, meditation, energy healing, psychology and counselling. It is a healing and self-development practice that consist of several different elements incorporated into one session:
- conversation to explore your needs and goals,
- emotional coaching and further explorations,
- personalised relaxation techniques,
- personalised yoga sequences to address specific needs.
Each session looks different depending on the client’s individual and unique needs and goals. Some sessions may be more foucsed on relaxation and grounding techniques and in-depth conversations, while others may contain a variate of all elementes listed above. The sessions are designed specifically for and in collaboration with each client.
What makes Theraputic Yoga different to other forms of yoga or therapy?
Working only with the mind through talk therapy can sometimes be limiting. This is because some memories or emotions may become “locked” within our bodies on a physical level, while being unavailable to us on a cognitive level. Yet, we can access those and release through physical movement.
On the other hand, working only with our body (for instance through yoga) means that we don’t get to process our experiences and emotions on a mental level.
Therapeutic yoga brings these elements together as it allows us to move through the process of healing and transformation in a holistic way.
